Buddha Knows at Deaffest!

We are excited to announce that we will be bringing a first ever brand new addition to Deaffest 2013, as Deafinitely Theatre makes its debut at Deaffest! Aliya Gulamani’s Buddha Knows, will be part of the live entertainment during the 4th Film Gala Awards at Deaffest 2013! Buddha Knows was shown as part of our 4Play showcase and that Aliya is on our Deafinitely Creative playwright development programme.

Finn is mugged and all his personal belongings are stolen. The keys don’t quite fit the front door, his living room is now filled with objects he’d rather not have to see and he has to endure a lengthy discussion with the statue of a Buddha. As a direct consequence of the mugging, Finn and his wife Grace are forced to confront an important and vital question about their future.

Def Motion’s Billy Read and Chris Fonseca

The entertainment for Friday night will be Def Motion‘s Billy Read and Chris Fonseca, who will dance their feet off to amaze the audience! Billy of Def Motion has recently won a place in Deaf Explorer scheme!

Born in Walsall, Billy grew up in a hearing family, having being deaf since 3 years old. After seven years at a deaf school down south, Billy came home to study at college and then at Wolverhampton University, graduating in Graphic Design.

It was while at uni that Billy set up the all-deaf dance group Def Motion for their debut performance at Deaffest 2011. In the 2 years since then, Def Motion continues to enjoy a rise of success and popularity performing to both deaf and hearing audiences.

Billy is currently preparing for his Deaf Explorer trip to the Far East, whilst also busy preparing for Def Motion’s performance at Clin d’Oeil: the Deaf European Arts Festival this summer.
