Deaffest presented as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival

Deaffest is proud to be a part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Deaffest, the UK’s leading Deaf-led Film & Arts Festival, returned for its 14th festival, with the theme Unlocked, after its postponement last year.

The biennial festival unlocked their doors from 6th to 8th May during Deaf Awareness Week, after an absence of 3 years. Our return to Deaffest at Light House, Wolverhampton amid glorious rays of sunshine, brought a huge crowd that packed out the courtyard, workshops and cinemas. Visitors included adults, children, and those from overseas, hailing from nations such as Canada, Switzerland, and France.

We look forward to seeing further events happening within the West Midlands when Birmingham hosts ‘The Birmingham 2022 Festival‘, an Arts festival for the Commonwealth Games.

The Birmingham 2022 Festival is supported by a range of funders including Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. It is a 6-month celebration packed with creative events taking place across the West Midlands region from March to September 2022.

This is the first time the West Midlands has hosted the Commonwealth Games where more than 200 events are taking place making the Birmingham 2022 Festival one of the largest cultural programmes to ever occur as part of Commonwealth Games celebrations. The Commonwealth Games and the Birmingham 2022 Festival aims to support not just the individuals involved but also the West Midlands region and the UK on the road to recovery from the pandemic.
