Are you a British Deaf filmmaker?

The iFeatures initiative for British filmmakers will see the development of 16 projects, with 3 films being chosen for production with a budget of £350,000.

iFeatures will be holding a series of roadshows across the UK to meet filmmakers.  If you wish to attend a roadshow to find out more about iFeatures BSL interpreters can be arranged on request. Check their event listings to find out where the iFeatures roadshows will be held.

Deaffest is very honoured to announce that Richard Griffiths, OBE, has become the first patron for the international film festival.

Richard Griffiths is an accomplished British actor of stage, film and television. Some of his best known roles include that of Uncle Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films and his portrayal of Uncle Monty in the cult classic film Withnail and I. He is also well known for his roles in theatre productions such as Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, for which he received a number of awards, including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. This year he will be starring alongside Danny DeVito in a new production of the Neil Simon play The Sunshine Boys.

Richard Griffiths grew up with Deaf parents, thus he has a strong insight and understanding of Deaf culture.

We’ve been busy working on the program for Deaffest 2012 and can confirm that DefMotion will be performing again this year. Def Motion is a vibrant young Deaf dance group based in Wolverhampton. They had a fantastic response from the audience last year, with the entire audience standing up to dance along! So we’re thrilled to have them performing at Deaffest again!
