Deaffest is very honoured to announce that Richard Griffiths, OBE, has become the first patron for the international film festival.
Richard Griffiths is an accomplished British actor of stage, film and television. Some of his best known roles include that of Uncle Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films and his portrayal of Uncle Monty in the cult classic film Withnail and I. He is also well known for his roles in theatre productions such as Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, for which he received a number of awards, including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. This year he will be starring alongside Danny DeVito in a new production of the Neil Simon play The Sunshine Boys.
Richard Griffiths grew up with Deaf parents, thus he has a strong insight and understanding of Deaf culture.
