Winners of Young Deaffest 2012!!

Congratulations to all those involved in making this year’s winning film for Young Deaffest – “Film Alone”.

The film was made by Deaf pupils from two schools, Deansfield Community School and Braidwood School for the Deaf during a workshop led by Deaf film maker Bim Ajadi at Deaffest last year. The one day workshop was funded by First Light.

The young people worked hard together with Bim to create two short films in the limited time available. The completed films demonstrated film making skills well learned and an irresistible freshness and enthusiasm.

Our thanks and congratulations also go to the other nominated films screened at Young Deaffest this year, some of which came very close to winning the award! To see “Film Alone” click on the following link: http://www.filmnation.org.uk/watch/film/film-alone-0

Alex Nowak meets Richard Griffiths

Alex Nowak sent us this fantastic photo of himself with Richard Griffiths. Alex, a well known young Deaf actor who presented the Young Deaffest Award at Deaffest 2012, had the pleasure of recently meeting Richard Griffiths, the Patron of Deaffest, at the Savoy Theatre in London.

Alex said  that he discussed Deaffest with Richard Griffiths, “I explained the festival was a success and we were sorry that he could not be with us. A sound guy.”

Richard Griffiths is currently co-starring alongside Danny DeVito in a theatre production, The Sunshine Boys.

Deaffest will be travelling to London this month for an exclusive interview with Richard Griffiths, so stay tuned for more from us about Richard Griffiths.

Thanks Alex for sharing the photo with us!

It’s being held at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin (yes, the name’s almost exactly the same as the Light House where Deaffest is held!)  on 14 – 16 October.
