With attendance figures increasing every year, Deaffest 2012 broke the records again and delivered an action packed festival weekend to a bigger than ever audience. A full quota of stalls on the courtyard proves that Deaffest is THE place to be for Deaf related businesses and companies to promote their services.
Film screenings throughout the weekend plus film & media related workshops kept everyone busy and interested, offering a useful and hands on experience for Deaf participants.
Tickets were sold out for the Ben Steiner Award Evening on Saturday night so there was an electric atmosphere as crowds packed in to the cinema. Dance group Def Motion led by Billy Read had the audience rocking. MC’s Elizabeth Bojas and Gavin Lilley led the evening with humour and style and Deaf comedian John Smith showed everyone the funny side of being British. When the time came for the winner of the £5000 Ben Steiner Bursary to be announced there was a lot of nerves and nail biting for all the applicants. Ted Evans was announced as the winner of the Ben Steiner Bursary 2012, and the audience went wild!
The party mood continued with the Keep Calm and Carry on Signing party out on the courtyard. An exciting atmosphere was building up for the night of entertainment ahead. With the bar staying open late the crowd increased and gathered around the stage to see more dance numbers and VV acts including an open stage session where talented members of the audience jumped up on stage to show everyone what they could do. Also grabbing the audience’s attention was Millie Dollar performing beautiful 50’s burlesque. The party continued into the early hours giving everyone there a Deaffest to remember.
