Congratulations are in order again (this is becoming a habit!) to Ted Evans whose film Retreat scooped three awards at the Australian Deaf Short Film Festival held in Melbourne on 25 January.  Two of the awards went to Ted for “Best Director” and “Best International Short Film” while the third for “Best Actor” went to the talented Sophie Stone.

Ted was the winner of Deaffest’s £5000 Ben Steiner Bursary award in 2012, and his gripping short film Retreat was the culmination of all his hard work on the project. The film was premiered at Deaffest on 17th May last year.

The Ben Steiner Film Bursary is a bi-annual bursary for talented emerging deaf and hard of hearing film makers over the age of 21. Participating film makers pitch their film concept to a judge panel and the winner receives £5000 to create their film project. The completed film is premiered at Deaffest the following year https://deaffest.co.uk/ben-steiner-bursary-2014/general-information/.

The bursary is being held again this year, so keep an eye out for forthcoming details of our 2014 participants and bursary judges.  Watch out Ted, there may be some aspiring young film makers coming up behind you!
