Deaffest

A BSL storytelling event for kids will be led by well-known CBeebies presenter of Magic Hands, Donna Mullings at Deaffest 2019.

Donna has been acting for the last 15 years. She has worked with both Deaf and integrated mainstream Theatre companies, her credits include A Posi+ive Life – Autin Dance Theatre, The Who’s ‘Tommy’ – Ramps on the Moon Theatre, Pulse and Macbrew – Derby Theatre, Love’s Labour’s Lost which was performed at The Globe – Deafinitely Theatre, Baa Moo Yellow Dog – Half Moon Theatre, The Crane and Cinderella’s Sisters – Red Earth Theatre, Children of a Greater God, It is a small world, Vagina Monologues and Something Else – Deafinitely Theatre and Appointment with Death – London Deaf Drama Group for which she won the best actors award.  She also worked as a volunteer with 3D – Derby Deaf Drama for Christmas Pantomimes such as Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol, Hansel and Gretel and also real life Murder Mystery – An Unfortunate Pregnancy. She went on to various acting workshops at the Deafinitely HUB and did a one off Deaf Improv Comedy.

She recently acted with the BSL Zone TV Films – Deaf Funny and Supersonics.

Donna has lots of experience in BSL translation, working as an In-Vision Signer for programmes such as the Cartoon Network, ABC, ITV, MTV, Linc’s – Black America Comedy, Disney Channel, SCI-FI Channel and Paramount.

Donna has also worked as a website Presenter for AC2.com and recently worked with a hearing presenter to present BSL stories for Stories to Tell in the Middle of the Night, website which was launched at the Birmingham Rep.

She is an experienced children’s fairy-tale storyteller, working for companies such as BSLBT, MyDeafLife.com, ITV Tyne Tees Television ‘SignPost’ and Cbeebies – Magic Hands.

She has been a dancer with Def Motion performing at the Reims Clin d’Oeil Festival (France), Incloodu Festival (London) and WoW Festival (Black Country).

Donna is currently working with the Derby Theatre to run drama workshops at the Royal School for the Deaf Derby.

Solar Bear’s Deaf Youth Theatre (DYT), based in Glasgow, is for young deaf people between the ages of 12 – 21. They meet, play, learn skills and create new work. Amongst many highlights they run weekly workshops, create an original new show every year and make films. They are proud that many of their members have successfully established careers in the arts, and return to DYT to inspire the next generation.

There will be an exciting performance by Solar Bear at Young Deaffest as well as at the Film & TV Awards Gala on Saturday 18th May 2019. Not to be missed!
