During 2020, we have witnessed the huge impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the restrictions, some of you have taken up new hobbies and we’ve noticed some amazing creative social media videos being shared online.

Why not submit your best video to Deaffest’s first ever online-only competition for the Best Short Social Media Video!

The competition will take place on Deaffest’s social media. We will be shortlisting the entries and then the best clip will be voted for by the public. Submit your best clip for FREE and be in with the chance of winning the Best Short Social Media Video Award and having your clip screened at Deaffest 2022.

Deaffest invites UK and International budding young filmmakers to submit their films to the 14th Deaffest Film and Arts Festival taking place in Wolverhampton, UK in Spring 2022.

For many years Deaffest has been proudly screening and supporting the works of emerging and established D/deaf filmmakers from the UK and around the globe. We work to showcase not just the films themselves, but also the talents of D/deaf filmmakers, actors, writers and more, providing inspiration to the younger D/deaf generation and all those who aspire to work in the film industry.

As the home of Deaf Film, we would like to extend this opportunity to young filmmakers So, whether your film is a short film, documentary, artistic, etc. If you want a chance of having your film shown on the big screen, then submit your film to us.

Introducing our new Ambassador of Young Deaffest – Danny Murphy!

We are delighted to welcome Danny Murphy as our new Ambassador of Young Deaffest!



Danny Murphy is a Deaf actor, filmmaker and presenter. He has packed in a lot of acting, comedy, travel and made several short films. Danny uploads weekly videos on his social media which include parodies, jokes, vlogs and news.

Danny’s past accomplishments include learning American Sign Language to play the role of Wesley in The Parts You Lose film alongside Breaking Bad’s actor Aaron Paul which was released nationwide in October 2019, being MC for Young Deaffest 2019 and hosting a workshop in Germany teaching young deaf people about filming and editing in 2019. He recently made an appearance on CBBC’s Blue Peter programme and is currently a presenter on CITV’s Dare Master taking on crazy dares!

He has more films in the pipeline and his biggest goal is to become a film director. He also aspires to lead further filmmaking workshops for young deaf people.

Young Deaffest was first launched in 2007 with the purpose of encouraging, enabling and inspiring young deaf people aged 17 or under to develop their skills, including filmmaking and acting within the film and media industries.

Danny will be representing young deaf people nationally and especially those with an interest in films and the arts.
