Organised by Festival Internacional de Cine Sordo (FiCSor) and Deaffest, with the support of the British Council, a virtual workshop took place on Friday the 22nd of March 2024.
The live event saw many participants, including aspiring filmmakers, taking part. Access was provided for all by several interpreters, including Argentine and British Sign Language, as well as International Sign. There were also spoken language interpreters translating Spanish and English.

Members of the Deaffest team gave an insight into the UK’s leading Deaf-led Film & Arts Festival and the roles involved. Following the brief presentation that Deaffest’s Co-founder and Festival Director, Marilyn Willrich, gave back in December 2023 for FiCSor, Marilyn elaborated further about Deaffest. Lou Parrott defined her title as PR Liaison Officer and the responsibilities involved, which included all sorts! Media Project Management Officer Jack Smallwood explained how the film/media side of Deaffest works and what his role entails.
Thank you to FiCSor and the British Council for the opportunity to work together; it was great to meet everybody via Zoom. Deaffest looks forward to what the future will bring to both Deaf film festivals!
